India excelled in the most prestigious Olympic Games this year. The 2020 Olympic Games were held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Due to the excellent performance of Indian players, India was ranked 48th out of 86 countries.
Indian athletes won a total of 7 medals in various sports. Among them are two silver medals and four bronze medals. After India's 2012 Olympic gold medal, Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in the Javeline Throw at the 2020 Tokyo Athletics Championships.
Mirabai Chanu and Ravikumar Dahiya each won a silver medal, Loveline Borgohen, Bajrang Poonia, Indian Hockey Team, and P. V. Sindhu won one bronze medal each. P. V. Sindhu has set a new record of being the first Indian woman to win a medal in two consecutive Olympics.

# India recreates history in the International Games of Paralympic 2020
Paralympic 2020 Games were held in Tokyo in conjunction with the Olympic 2020 Games. India won 19 medals in the Paralympic 2020 Games, breaking all previous records.
The Paralympics are internationally organized competitions for athletes with physical, visual, or intellectual disabilities.
India won one medal in the 2012 Paralympics and four in 2016. In this year's Paralympics, India won a staggering 19 medals by sending the largest ever contingent of 54 athletes. It has five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals.
Avni Lekhare and Manish Narwal in shooting, Pramod Bhagat and Krishna Nagar in badminton, and Sumit Antil in athletics won gold medals each.
Combining both sport and profession, Suhas won a silver medal in badminton. Suhas is working in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
# History of India in the Olympic Games
In 1900, India first participated in the Olympic Games under the British flag. In the same Games, Norman Pritchard of British India won two silver medals and India became the first Asian nation to win an Olympic medal.
After India's independence, the Indian hockey team won a gold medal in the 1948 Olympic Games, defeating the British. It became India's first Olympic medal and a gold medal.
So far, India has won a total of 35 Olympic medals, including 10 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze medals. The Indian hockey team alone won eight out of ten gold medals between 1928 and 1980.
At the 2000 Olympics, Karnam Malleshwari became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal by winning a bronze medal.
